Together, we are building opportunity, confidence, and a stronger future for female athletes in Duval and beyond.

Duval Youth Empowerment Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to expanding access and opportunity for young female athletes in travel basketball who otherwise lack the financial means to participate. The Foundation is committed to bridging economic barriers, developing leadership, and promoting sportsmanship and teamwork through competitive youth basketball.

The Scholarship Program provides financial assistance covering registration fees, travel costs, uniforms, training camps, and/or equipment for girls selected to compete at the travel circuit level. Recipients are girls who demonstrate both basketball potential and financial need—ensuring that talent, dedication and passion are not sidelined due to cost. FACT

Youth from lower-income homes participate in organized sports at up to half the rate of those from higher-income homes.

Because girls from low SES backgrounds have fewer opportunities in sports, scholarships or reduced-cost access (especially for competitive travel or AAU-type teams) help level the playing field and remove an economic barrier.

Organized sports are not just physical activity; they provide access to coaching, exposure, team dynamics, mentorship, travel experiences, and college recruitment pipelines—that many low-income girls miss out on.

Increasing access and participation among low-income girls can have long-term benefits: improved academic outcomes, leadership development, healthier lifestyle, and greater social capital.
